On some high-dimensional limits of matricial stochastic processes seen from a quantum probability perspective

Towards a Classification of Multi-Faced Independence: A Representation-Theoretic Approach

It will be shown how univ… ▽ More We attack the classification problem of multi-faced independences, the first non-trivial example being Voiculescu's bi-freeness. While the present paper does not achieve a complete classification, it formalizes the idea of lifting an operator on a pre-Hilbert space in a "universal" way to a larger product space, which is key for the construction of (old and new) examples. It will be shown how universal lifts can be used to construct very well-behaved (multi-faced) independences in general. Furthermore, we entirely classify universal lifts to the tensor product and to the free product of pre-Hilbert spaces. Our work brings to light surprising new examples of 2-faced independences. Most noteworthy, for many known 2-faced independences, we find that they admit continuous deformations within the class of 2-faced independences, showing in particular that, in contrast with the single faced case, this class is infinite (and even uncountable). △ Less

Hypercontractivity of heat semigroups on free quantum groups

Abstract: In this paper we study two semigroups of completely positive unital self-adjoint maps on the von Neumann algebras of the free orthogonal quantum group $O_N^+$ and the free permutation quantum group $S_N^+$. We show that these semigroups satisfy ultracontractivity and hypercontractivity estimates. We also give results regarding spectral gap and logarithmic Sobolev inequalities. Haar states and Lévy processes on the unitary dual group

Its structure of dual group in the sense of Voiculescu allows to define five natural convolutions. We prove that there exists no Haar state for those convolutions. Construction of a free Lévy process as high-dimensional limit of a Brownian motion on the Unitary group

Thus, for instance, the additive free Brownian motion can be seen as the limit of the Brownian motion on hermitian matrices. More generally, it is quite natural to try to build free Lévy processes as high-dimensional limits of classical matricial Lévy processes. We will focus here on one specific s… ▽ More It is well known that freeness appears in the high-dimensional limit of independence for matrices. Thus, for instance, the additive free Brownian motion can be seen as the limit of the Brownian motion on hermitian matrices. More generally, it is quite natural to try to build free Lévy processes as high-dimensional limits of classical matricial Lévy processes. We will focus here on one specific such construction, discussing and generalizing a work done previously by Biane, who has shown that the (classical) Brownian motion on the Unitary group U\left(d\right) converges to the free multiplicative Brownian motion when d goes to infinity. We shall first recall that result and give an alternative proof for it. We shall then see how this proof can be adapted in a more general context in order to get a free Lévy process on the dual group (in the sense of Voiculescu) U\langle n\rangle. This result will actually amount to a truly noncommutative limit theorem for classical random variables, of the which Biane's result constitutes the case n=1. △ Less
