Observation of the rare $B^0_s\toμ^+μ^-$ decay from the combined analysis of CMS and LHCb data

Abstract: A joint measurement is presented of the branching fractions $B^0_s\toμ^+μ^-$ and $B^0\toμ^+μ^-$ in proton-proton collisions at the LHC by the CMS and LHCb experiments. The data samples were collected in 2011 at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, and in 2012 at 8 TeV. The combined analysis produces the first observation of the $B^0_s\toμ^+μ^-$ decay, with a statistical significance exceeding six sta… ▽ More A joint measurement is presented of the branching fractions $B^0_s\toμ^+μ^-$ and $B^0\toμ^+μ^-$ in proton-proton collisions at the LHC by the CMS and LHCb experiments. Furthermore, evidence for the $B^0\toμ^+μ^-$ decay is obtained with a statistical significance of three standard deviations. Searches for the Standard Model Higgs boson at the Tevatron

Abstract: Preliminary results obtained by the CDF and D0 Collaborations on the Standard Model Higgs searches at the Tevatron Run II are discussed. The data that correspond to an integrated luminosity of > 150/pb are compared to theoretical expectations. Top mass determination in leptonic final states with J/psi

Abstract: Taking advantage of large top production rates at the LHC, the leptonic final states with J/psi are explored for a precise determination of the top quark mass. The top is partially reconstructed by combining the isolated lepton from the W with the J/psi from the decays of the corresponding b-quark. The method relies, to a large extent, on the proper Monte-Carlo description of top production and… ▽ More Taking advantage of large top production rates at the LHC, the leptonic final states with J/psi are explored for a precise determination of the top quark mass. $Υ$ Polarization at HERA-$B$

Abstract: The production of $Υ$ mesons in fixed target $pN$ collisions is considered. It is shown that Non-Relativistic QCD predicts $Υ$ states to be produced with sizeable transverse polarization. Discovery potential for supersymmetry in CMS

Abstract: This work summarizes and puts in an overall perspective studies done within CMS concerning the discovery potential for squarks and gluinos, sleptons, charginos and neutralinos, SUSY dark matter, lightest Higgs, sparticle mass determination methods and the detector design optimisation in view of SUSY searches. It represents the status of our understanding of these subjects as of Summer 1997. As… ▽ More This work summarizes and puts in an overall perspective studies done within CMS concerning the discovery potential for squarks and gluinos, sleptons, charginos and neutralinos, SUSY dark matter, lightest Higgs, sparticle mass determination methods and the detector design optimisation in view of SUSY searches. It represents the status of our understanding of these subjects as of Summer 1997. As a benchmark model we used the minimal supergravity-inspired super- symmetric standard model (mSUGRA) with a stable LSP. Discovery of SUSY at the LHC should be relatively straightforward. It may occur through the observation of a large excesses of events in missing E_T + jets, or with one or more isolated leptons. An excess of trilepton events or of isolated dileptons with E_T^miss, exhibiting a characteristic signature in the l^+l^- invariant mass distribution could also be the first manifestation of SUSY production. Squark and gluino production may represent a copious source of Higgs bosons through cascade decays. The lightest SUSY Higgs h->bbbar may be reconstructed with a signal/background ratio of order 1. The lightest supersymmetric particle of SUSY models with conserved R-parity represents a very good candidate for the cosmological dark matter. The region of parameter space where this is true is well-covered by our searches, at least for tan(beta)=2. If supersymmetry exists at electroweak scale it could hardly escape detection in CMS, and the study of supersymmetry will form a central part of our physics program. △ Less

Abstract: We study the inclusive production of the next-to-lightest neutralino chi2, decaying directly, or via slepton, into two leptons and the lightest neutralino. The dilepton invariant mass spectrum in these decays has a characteristic sharp edge near the kinematical upper limit. We propose to exploit this feature as a search strategy for the chi2, and thereby for SUSY.
