Search for Violation of CPT and Lorentz Invariance in $B^0_s$ Meson Oscillations using the D0 Detector

Abstract: A search is presented for CPT-violating effects in the mixing of $B^0_s$ mesons using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The CPT-violating asymmetry in the decay $B^0_s \rightarrow μ^{\pm} D_s^{\mp} X$ as a function of sidereal phase is measured. No evidence for CPT-violating effects is observed and limits are placed on CPT- and Lorentz-invariance violating coupling coefficients. A search is presented for CPT-violating effects in the mixing of $B^0_s$ mesons using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Evidence for a $B_s^0 π^\pm$ State

Abstract: We report evidence of a narrow structure, $X(5568)$, in the decay sequence $X(5568) \rightarrow B_s^0 π^{\pm}$, $B_s^0 \rightarrow J/ψφ$, $J/ψ\rightarrow μ^+ μ^-$, $φ\rightarrow K^+K^-$. This is evidence for the first instance of a hadronic state with valence quarks of four different flavors. If the decay is $X(5568) \rightarrow B_s^* π^{\pm} \rightarrow B_s^0 γπ^{\pm}$ with an unseen $γ$, $m(X(5568))$ will be shifted up by $m(B_s^*) - m(B_s^0) \sim 49$ MeV/$c^2$. Simultaneous measurement of forward-backward asymmetry and top polarization in dilepton final states from $t\bar t$ production at the Tevatron

Abstract: We present a simultaneous measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry and the top-quark polarization in $t\bar t$ production in dilepton final states using 9.7 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-antiproton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV with the D0 detector. To reconstruct the distributions of kinematic observables we employ a matrix element technique that calculates the likelihood of the possible… ▽ More We present a simultaneous measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry and the top-quark polarization in $t\bar t$ production in dilepton final states using 9.7 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-antiproton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV with the D0 detector. To reconstruct the distributions of kinematic observables we employ a matrix element technique that calculates the likelihood of the possible $t\bar t$ kinematic configurations. After accounting for the presence of background events and for calibration effects, we obtain a forward-backward asymmetry of $A^{t\bar t} = (15.0 \pm 6.4 \text{ (stat)} \pm 4.9 \text{ (syst)})\%$ and a top-quark polarization times spin analyzing power in the beam basis of $κP = (7.2 \pm 10.5 \text{ (stat)} \pm 4.2 \text{ (syst)})\%$, with a correlation of $-56\%$ between the measurements. If we constrain the forward-backward asymmetry to its expected standard model value, we obtain a measurement of the top polarization of $κP = (11.3 \pm 9.1 \text{ (stat)} \pm 1.9 \text{ (syst)})\%.$ If we constrain the top polarization to its expected standard model value, we measure a forward-backward asymmetry of $A^{t\bar t} = (17.5 \pm 5.6 \text{ (stat)} \pm 3.1 \text{ (syst)})\%.$ A combination with the D0 $A^{t\bar t}$ measurement in the lepton+jets final state yields an asymmetry of $ A^{t\bar t} = (11.8 \pm 2.5 \text{ (stat)} \pm 1.3 \text{ (syst)})\% . $ Within their respective uncertainties, all these results are consistent with the standard model expectations. △ Less

Measurement of angular correlations of jets at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV and determination of the strong coupling at high momentum transfers

Abstract: We present a measurement of the average value of a new observable at hadron colliders that is sensitive to QCD dynamics and to the strong coupling constant, while being only weakly sensitive to parton distribution functions. The observable measures the angular correlations of jets and is defined as the number of neighboring jets above a given transverse momentum threshold which accompany a given j… ▽ More We present a measurement of the average value of a new observable at hadron colliders that is sensitive to QCD dynamics and to the strong coupling constant, while being only weakly sensitive to parton distribution functions. The observable measures the angular correlations of jets and is defined as the number of neighboring jets above a given transverse momentum threshold which accompany a given jet within a given distance Delta-R in the plane of rapidity and azimuthal angle. The ensemble average over all jets in an inclusive jet sample is measured and the results are presented as a function of transverse momentum of the inclusive jets, in different regions of Delta-R and for different transverse momentum requirements for the neighboring jets. The measurement is based on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.7 fb-1 collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider in pp-bar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 The results are well described by a perturbative QCD calculation in next-to-leading order in the strong coupling constant, corrected for non-perturbative effects. From these results, we extract the strong coupling and test the QCD predictions for its running over a range of momentum transfers of 50-400 GeV. △ Less

We study the production of inclusive neutral Higgs boson in the tautau final state and in association with a b quark in the btautau and bbb final states. A Precision Measurement of the Mass of the Top Quark

Abstract: The Standard Model of particle physics contains about two dozen parameters - such as particle masses - whose origins are still unknown and cannot be predicted, but whose values are constrained through their interactions. In particular, the masses of the top (t) quark (M_t) and W boson constrain the mass of the long-hypothesized, but thus far not observed, Higgs boson. A precise measurement of th… ▽ More The Standard Model of particle physics contains about two dozen parameters - such as particle masses - whose origins are still unknown and cannot be predicted, but whose values are constrained through their interactions. In particular, the masses of the top (t) quark (M_t) and W boson constrain the mass of the long-hypothesized, but thus far not observed, Higgs boson. A precise measurement of the top-quark mass can therefore point to where to look for the Higgs, and indeed whether the hypothesis of a SM Higgs is consistent with experimental data. Since top quarks are produced in pairs and decay in only ~10^-24 s into various final states, reconstructing their mass from their decay products is very challenging. Here we report a technique that extracts far more information from each top-quark event and yields a greatly improved precision on the top mass of 5.3 GeV/c^2, compared to previous measurements. When our new result is combined with our published measurement in a complementary decay mode and with the only other measurements available, the new world average for M_t becomes 178.0 +- 4.3 GeV/c^2. As a result, the most likely Higgs mass increases from the experimentally excluded value of 96 GeV/c^2 to 117 GeV/c^2, which is beyond current experimental sensitivity. The upper limit on the Higgs mass at 95% confidence level is raised from 219 GeV/c^2 to 251 GeV/c^2. △ Less

Observation and Properties of the X(3872) Decaying to J/psi pi+ pi- in p-p(bar) Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV

Abstract: We report the observation of the X(3872) in the J/psi pi+pi- channel, with J/psi decaying to mu+mu- in p-p(bar) collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. Using approximately 230 pb^-1 of data collected with the Run II D0 detector, we observe 522 +/- 100 X(3872) candidates. The mass difference between the X(3872) state and the J/psi is measured to be 774.9 +/- 3.1 (stat.) +/- 3.0 (syst.) MeV/c^2. Probing Color Coherency Using High pT W Events at the TEVATRON
