Search for a dark Higgs boson produced in association with inelastic dark matter at the Belle II experiment

Abstract: Inelastic dark matter models that have two dark matter particles and a massive dark photon can reproduce the observed relic dark matter density without violating cosmological limits. The mass splitting between the two dark matter particles $χ_{1}$ and $χ_{2}$, with $m(χ_{2}) > m(χ_{1})$, is induced by a dark Higgs field and a corresponding dark Higgs boson $h^{\prime}$. We present a search for dark matter in events with two vertices, at least one of which must be displaced from the interaction region, and missing energy. Using a $365\,\mbox{fb}^{-1}$ data sample collected at Belle II, which operates at the SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider, we observe no evidence for a signal. We set upper limits on the product of the production cross section $σ\left(e^+e^- \to h^\prime χ_1 χ_2\right)$, and the product of branching fractions $\mathcal{B}\left(χ_2\toχ_1 e^+ e^-\right)\times\mathcal{B}\left(h^\prime\to x^+x^-\right)$, where $x^+x^-$ indicates $μ^+μ^-, π^+π^-$, or $K^+K^-$, as functions of $h^{\prime}$ mass and lifetime at the level of $10^{-1}\,\mbox{fb}$. We set model-dependent upper limits on the dark Higgs mixing angle at the level of $10^{-5}$ and on the dark photon kinetic mixing parameter at the level of $10^{-3}$. Rapidity and multiplicity dependence of charged-particle flow in $p$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 8.16$ TeV

Abstract: The elliptic and triangular flow of charged particles are measured using two-particle angular correlations in $p$Pb collisions in the pseudorapidity range \cal{2.0 $< |η| <$ 4.8}. The data sample was collected by the LHCb experiment in 2016 at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 8.16$ TeV, containing in total approximately 1.5 billion collision events. The results are presented as a function of event multiplicity and hadron transverse momentum. Comparisons with a full (3+1)D dynamic model indicate that it overestimates the measured elliptic flow. A comparison between the forward and backward regions reveals no significant differences in flow parameters, suggesting that final-state effects may dominate over initial-state effects in the origin of flow in small systems. △ Less

Observation of resonant contribution to the $e^+e^-\to Ω^{-}\barΩ^{+}$ around 4.2~GeV and evidence of $ψ(3770)\to Ω^{-}\barΩ^{+}$

Abstract: Using $e^+e^-$ collision data corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 22.7 fb$^{-1}$, collected at center-of-mass energies between 3.7 and 4.7 GeV with the BESIII detector, we present a measurement of energy-dependent cross sections and effective form factors for the process of $e^+e^-\to Ω^{-}\barΩ^+$. By conducting a fit to the cross sections of $e^+e^-\to Ω^{-}\barΩ^+$ considering the… ▽ More Using $e^+e^-$ collision data corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 22.7 fb$^{-1}$, collected at center-of-mass energies between 3.7 and 4.7 GeV with the BESIII detector, we present a measurement of energy-dependent cross sections and effective form factors for the process of $e^+e^-\to Ω^{-}\barΩ^+$. By conducting a fit to the cross sections of $e^+e^-\to Ω^{-}\barΩ^+$ considering the continuum and resonant contributions, a clear resonant structure in the spectrum around 4.2 GeV is observed for the first time with a statistical significance exceeding 10$σ$, and it can be well described with the line shape of the $Y(4230)$ and $Y(4320)$ observed in $e^+e^-\to π^{+}π^{-}J/ψ$. Evidence for the decay $ψ(3770) \to Ω^-\barΩ^{+}$ is observed with a statistical significance of 4.4$σ$ by analyzing the measured cross sections together with earlier BESIII results, and the branching fraction is firstly measured to be $(4.0\pm1.0\pm0.6)$ $\times$ $10^{-5}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. △ Less

The decay $B^0_s \to K^0 p \bar{p}$ is observed for the first time, with a measured branching fraction of $(9.14 \pm 1.69 \pm 0.90 \pm 0.33 \pm 0.20) \times 10^{-7}$ and a significance of $5.6σ$. The uncertainties respectively account for statistical and systematic contributions, the precision of the branching fraction of the normalisation channel $B^0 \to K^0 π^{+} π^{-}$ and the fragmentation fraction ratio ${f_s}/{f_d}$. The branching fraction determined for $B^0 \to K^0 p \bar{p}$ is $(2.82 \pm 0.08 \pm 0.12 \pm 0.10) \times 10^{-6}$, which is the most precise measurement to date. △ Less

It is important to understand the electrical behavior of detectors after irradiation. In this study, an irradiation simulation framework is constructed in RASER to simulate leakage current and charge collection effciency. The defect parameters are obtained from the Hamburg penta trap model (HPTM). Based on this work, we predict the similar silicon inner tracker which under a ten-year CEPC Higgs mode run can still maintain over 90% charge collection efficiency. △ Less

The decay modes $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}\toηηη^{\prime}$ are observed for the first time, and their corresponding branching fractions are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(χ_{c1}\toηηη^{\prime}) = (1.39 \pm 0.13(\text{stat.}) \pm 0.09(\text{sys.})) \times 10^{-4}$ and $\mathcal{B}(χ_{c2}\toηηη^{\prime}) = (4.42 \pm 0.86(\text{stat.}) \pm 0.37(\text{sys.})) \times 10^{-5}$. An upper limit on the branching fraction of $χ_{c0}\toηηη^{\prime}$ is set as $2.64 \times 10^{-5}$ at 90\% confidence level (CL). A partial wave analysis (PWA) of the decay $χ_{c1}\toηηη^{\prime}$ is performed to search for the $1^{-+}$ exotic state $η_1(1855)$. The PWA result indicates that the structure in the $ηη^{\prime}$ mass spectrum is mainly attributed to the $f_0(1500)$, while in the $ηη$ mass spectrum, it is primarily the $0^{++}$ phase space. The upper limit of $\mathcal{B}(χ_{c1}\toη_{1}(1855)η) \cdot \mathcal{B}(η_{1}(1855)\toηη^{\prime})< 9.79 \times 10^{-5}$ is set based on the PWA at 90\% CL. △ Less

Abstract: We report measurements of the ratios of branching fractions $\mathcal{R}(D^{(*)+}) = \mathcal{B}(\overline{B}{}^0 \to D^{(*)+} \,τ^- \, \overlineν_τ) / \mathcal{B}(\overline{B}{}^0 \to D^{(*)+} \, \ell^- \, \overlineν_\ell)$, where $\ell$ denotes either an electron or a muon. Signal candidates are reconstructed by selecting events in which the companion $B$ meson from the $Υ(4S) \to B\overline{B}{}$ decay is identified in semileptonic modes. The $τ$ lepton is reconstructed via its leptonic decays. We obtain $\mathcal{R}(D^+) = 0.418 \pm 0.074 ~({\mathrm{stat}}) \pm 0.051 ~({\mathrm{syst}})$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^{*+}) = 0.306 \pm 0.034 ~({\mathrm{stat}}) \pm 0.018 ~({\mathrm{syst}})$, which are consistent with world average values. Abstract: We report a study of the semileptonic decay $D^0 \rightarrow \bar{K}^0π^-μ^+ν_μ$ based on a sample of $7.9~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The branching fraction of the decay is measured for the first time to be… ▽ More We report a study of the semileptonic decay $D^0 \rightarrow \bar{K}^0π^-μ^+ν_μ$ based on a sample of $7.9~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The branching fraction of the decay is measured for the first time to be $\mathcal{B}(D^0\rightarrow \bar{K}^0π^-μ^+ν_μ) = (1.373 \pm 0.020_{\rm stat} \pm 0.023_{\rm syst})\%$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Based on the investigation of the decay dynamics, we find that the decay is dominated by the $K^{*}(892)^-$ resonance with the branching fraction measured to be $\mathcal{B}(D^0\rightarrow K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ) = (1.948 \pm 0.033_{\rm stat} \pm 0.036_{\rm syst})\%$. We also determine the hadronic form factors for the $D^0\rightarrow K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ$ decay to be $r_{V} = V(0)/A_1(0) = 1.46 \pm 0.11_{\rm stat} \pm 0.04_{\rm syst}$, $r_{2} = A_2(0)/A_1(0) = 0.71 \pm 0.08_{\rm stat} \pm 0.03_{\rm syst}$, and $A_1(0)=0.609 \pm 0.008_{\rm stat} \pm 0.008_{\rm syst}$, where $V(0)$ is the vector form factor and $A_{1,2}(0)$ are the axial form factors evaluated at $q^2=0$. The $A_1(0)$ is measured for the first time in $D^0\rightarrow K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ$ decay. Averaging the form-factor parameters that we reported previously in $D^0\rightarrow K^*(892)^-(\rightarrow \bar{K}^0π^-)e^+ν_{e}$ and $D^0\rightarrow K^*(892)^-(\rightarrow K^-π^0)μ^+ν_μ$ decays, we obtain $r_{V}=1.456\pm0.040_{\rm stat}\pm0.016_{\rm syst}$, $r_{2}=0.715\pm0.031_{\rm stat}\pm0.014_{\rm stat}$, and $A_1(0)=0.614\pm0.005_{\rm stat}\pm0.004_{\rm syst}$. This is the most precise determination of the form-factor parameters to date measured in $D\rightarrow K^*(892)$ transition, which provide the most stringent test on various theoretical models. △ Less

Abstract: Using a 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data sample collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we present an observation of transverse polarization and a complete determination of the electromagnetic form factor of the $Λ$ hyperon in $e^{+}e^{-}\toΛ\barΛ$ decay with the entangled $Λ-\barΛ$ pair at $\sqrt{s}=3.773$ GeV. Abstract: Using a sample of $(2.712\pm0.014) \times 10^{9}$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the electron positron collider BEPCII, the decay $ψ(3686) \to Ξ^- K^0_S \barΩ^+ +c.c.$ is observed for the first time, which has a significance of 5.9 standard deviations. Abstract: Using $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider, the cross section of $e^+e^-\to π^+π^- h_c$ is measured at 59 points with center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ ranging from $4.009$ to $4.950~\mathrm{GeV}$ with a total integrated luminosity of $22.2~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. The cross section between $4.3$ and $4.45~\mathrm{GeV}$ exhibits a… ▽ More Using $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider, the cross section of $e^+e^-\to π^+π^- h_c$ is measured at 59 points with center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ ranging from $4.009$ to $4.950~\mathrm{GeV}$ with a total integrated luminosity of $22.2~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. The cross section between $4.3$ and $4.45~\mathrm{GeV}$ exhibits a plateau-like shape and drops sharply around $4.5~\mathrm{GeV}$, which cannot be described by two resonances only. Three coherent Breit-Wigner functions are used to parameterize the $\sqrt{s}$-dependent cross section line shape. The masses and widths are determined to be $M_1=(4223.6_{-3.7-2.9}^{+3.6+2.6})~\mathrm{MeV}/c^2$, $Γ_1=(58.5_{-11.4-6.5}^{+10.8+6.7})~\mathrm{MeV}$, $M_2=(4327.4_{-18.8-9.3}^{+20.1+10.7})~\mathrm{MeV}/c^2$, $Γ_2=(244.1_{-27.1-18.0}^{+34.0+23.9})~\mathrm{MeV}$, and $M_3=(4467.4_{-5.4-2.7}^{+7.2+3.2})~\mathrm{MeV}/c^2$, $Γ_3=(62.8_{-14.4-6.6}^{+19.2+9.8})~\mathrm{MeV}$. The first uncertainties are statistical and the other two are systematic. We also perform the first searches for $D^0\to K^+π^-η$, $D^0\to K^+π^-π^0η$, $D^+\to K^+π^+π^-η$, $D^{+} \to K^{+} \left(π^{+} π^{-} η\right)_{{\rm non}-η^{\prime}}$, and $D^+\to K^+ηη$ and report the first observations and evidence for some of these final states. Combining the measurements with the world averages of the corresponding Cabibbo-favored (CF) decays, the ratios of the DCS/CF branching fractions are obtained. The ratios of branching fractions of ${Ξ_{c}^{+}\to Σ^{+}K_{S}^{0}}$ and $Ξ_{c}^{+}\to Ξ^{0}K^{+}$ relative to that of $Ξ_{c}^{+}\toΞ^{-}π^{+}π^{+}$ are measured for the first time, while the ratio ${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{+}\toΞ^{0}π^{+})/{\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{+}\toΞ^{-}π^{+}π^{+}) $ is also determined and improved by an order of magnitude in precision. The measured branching fraction ratios are $\frac{\cal{B}(Ξ_{c}^{+} \to Σ^{+}K_{S}^{0})}{\cal{B}(Ξ_{c}^{+}\to Ξ^{-}π^{+}π^+)}= 0.067 \pm 0.007 \pm 0.003$, $\frac{\cal{B}(Ξ_c^{+} \to Ξ^{0}π^{+})}{\cal{B}(Ξ_{c}^{+}\to Ξ^{-}π^{+}π^+)} = 0.248 \pm 0.005 \pm 0.009$, $\frac{\cal{B}(Ξ_c^{+} \to Ξ^{0}K^{+})}{\cal{B}(Ξ_{c}^{+}\to Ξ^{-}π^{+}π^+)} = 0.017 \pm 0.003 \pm 0.001$. Additionally, the ratio ${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{+}\toΞ^{0}K^{+})/{\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{+}\toΞ^{0}π^{+})$ is measured to be $ 0.068 \pm 0.010 \pm 0.004$. Here, the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Multiplying the ratios by the branching fraction of the normalization mode, ${\mathcal B}(Ξ_{c}^{+}\toΞ^{-}π^{+}π^+)= (2.9\pm 1.3)\%$, we obtain the following absolute branching fractions ${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{+}\toΣ^{+}K^{0}_{S}) = (0.194 \pm 0.021 \pm 0.009 \pm 0.087 )%$, ${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{+}\toΞ^{0}π^{+}) = (0.719 \pm 0.014 \pm 0.024 \pm 0.322 )%$, ${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{+}\toΞ^{0}K^{+}) = (0.049 \pm 0.007 \pm 0.002 \pm 0.022 )%$. △ Less

Furthermore, the quantum-entangled $Σ^{+}\barΣ^{-}$ system enables the most precise test of $CP$ symmetry for the decay $Σ^+\to pπ^0$, through the asymmetry observable $A_{CP}=(α_{0}+\barα_{0})/(α_{0}-\barα_{0})$ that is measured to be $-0.0118\pm0.0083_{\rm stat}\pm0.0028_{\rm syst}$. Assuming $CP$ conservation, the average decay parameter is determined to be ${\left< α_{\rm 0}\right>} = (α_0-\barα_0)/2=-0.9869\pm0.0011_{\rm stat}\pm0.0016_{\rm syst}$, which is the most precise measurement of the asymmetry decay parameters in baryon sectors. The angular dependence of the ratio of the polarization of the $Σ^+$ in both $J/ψ$ and $ψ(3686)$ decays is studied for the first time. △ Less

However, despite having been discovered in various meson decays, $CP$ violation has yet to be observed in baryons, the type of matter that makes up the observable Universe. This article reports a study of the decay of the beauty baryon $Λ^{0}_{b}$ to the $p K^{-} π^{+}π^{-}$ final state and its $CP$-conjugated process, using data collected by the LHCb (Large Hadron Collider beauty) experiment at CERN. The results reveal significant asymmetries between the decay rates of the $Λ^{0}_{b}$ baryon and its $CP$-conjugated antibaryon, marking the first observation of $CP$ violation in baryon decays, thus demonstrating the different behaviour of baryons and antibaryons. In the Standard Model, $CP$ violation arises from the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa mechanism, while new forces or particles beyond the Standard Model could provide additional contributions. Abstract: We report a precise measurement of the ratio of branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to p K_S^0 π^0)/\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to p K^- π^+)$ using 980 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ data from the Belle experiment. Abstract: By analyzing $4.5$ fb$^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data accumulated with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies ranging from $4599.53$ MeV to $4698.82$ MeV, we report the measurement of the absolute branching fraction (BF) of the inclusive decay $Λ_{c}^{+} \to K_{S}^{0} X$ using the double-tag technique. The result is $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+} \to K_{S}^{0} X)=(10.9\pm0.2\pm0.1)\%$, where… ▽ More By analyzing $4.5$ fb$^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data accumulated with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies ranging from $4599.53$ MeV to $4698.82$ MeV, we report the measurement of the absolute branching fraction (BF) of the inclusive decay $Λ_{c}^{+} \to K_{S}^{0} X$ using the double-tag technique. The result is $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+} \to K_{S}^{0} X)=(10.9\pm0.2\pm0.1)\%$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This result indicates that there are still undiscovered decay channels containing $K_{S}^{0}$ in the final state with a combined BF of $(3.1\pm0.4)\%$. The BF of the inclusive decay $Λ_{c}^{+} \to \overline{K}^{0} / K^{0} X$ is calculated to be $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+} \to \overline{K}^{0} / K^{0} X)=(21.8 \pm0.4 \pm0.2 \pm1.1)\%$, where the third uncertainty accounts for a possible difference between $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+} \to K_{S}^{0} X)$ and $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+} \to K_{L}^{0} X)$. Precision measurement of the branching fraction for the decay $ψ(2S)\rightarrowτ^{+}τ^{-}$

Single Inclusive $π^\pm$ and $K^\pm$ Production in $e^+e^-$ Annihilation at center-of-mass Energies from 2.000 to 3.671GeV

Abstract: Using data samples with a total integrated luminosity of 253 $\rm pb^{-1}$ collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, the differential cross-sections of inclusive $π^\pm$ and $K^\pm$ production, as a function of momentum and normalized by the total hadronic cross-section, are measured at center-of-mass energies from 2.000 to 3.671 GeV. These new results are in agreement with state-of-the-art QCD analyses at next-to-next-to-leading order accuracy, particularly in the large hadron momentum region at energy scales down to 3 GeV. Amplitude analysis of $ψ(3686)\to γK_S^0 K_S^0 $

Abstract: Using $(2712\pm14)\times10^6$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform the first amplitude analysis of the radiative decay $ψ(3686)\to γK_S^0 K_S^0$ within the mass region $M_{K_S^0 K_S^0 }<2.8$ GeV/$c^2$. Employing a one-channel K-matrix approach for the description of the dynamics of the $K^0_S K^0_S$ system, the data sample is well described with four poles for the $f_0$-… ▽ More Using $(2712\pm14)\times10^6$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform the first amplitude analysis of the radiative decay $ψ(3686)\to γK_S^0 K_S^0$ within the mass region $M_{K_S^0 K_S^0 }<2.8$ GeV/$c^2$. Employing a one-channel K-matrix approach for the description of the dynamics of the $K^0_S K^0_S$ system, the data sample is well described with four poles for the $f_0$-wave and three poles for the $f_2$-wave. The determined pole positions are consistent with those of well-established resonance states. The observed $f_0$ and $f_{2}$ states are found to be in agreement with those produced in radiative $J/ψ$ decays. The production behaviors of $f_0$ and $f_2$ poles in $ψ(3686)\toγK_S^0 K_S^0$ are qualified with their residues and the converted branching fractions. By comparing with $J/ψ\toγK_S^0 K_S^0$ decay, the ratios $\frac{\mathcal{B}(ψ(3686)\toγf_{0,2})}{\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\toγf_{0,2})}$ are determined, which provides crucial experimental inputs on the internal structure of the $f_{0,2}$ states, especially their potential mixing with glueball components. △ Less

The analysis is performed in the region of the dilepton invariant mass squared of 1.1-6.0 GeV$^{2}/c^{4}$. In addition, a test of lepton flavour universality is performed by comparing the obtained angular observables with those measured in $B^0\rightarrow K^{*0}μ^{+}μ^{-}$ decays. In general, the angular observables are found to be consistent with the Standard Model expectations as well as with global analyses of other $b \rightarrow s \ell^{+} \ell^{-}$ processes, where $\ell$ is either a muon or an electron. Evidence of the P_ccbars(4459)0 in Upsilon(1S, 2S) inclusive decays at Belle

Abstract: Using data samples of 102 million Upsilon(1S) events and 158 million Upsilon(2S) events collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider, we search for [udsccbar] pentaquark states decaying to Jpsi Lambda. Using the first observations of Upsilon(1S, 2S) inclusive decays to Jpsi Lambda, we find evidence of the P_ccbars(4459)0 state with a significance of 3.3 standard… ▽ More Using data samples of 102 million Upsilon(1S) events and 158 million Upsilon(2S) events collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider, we search for [udsccbar] pentaquark states decaying to Jpsi Lambda. Using the first observations of Upsilon(1S, 2S) inclusive decays to Jpsi Lambda, we find evidence of the P_ccbars(4459)0 state with a significance of 3.3 standard deviations, including statistical and systematic uncertainties. We measure the mass and width of the Pccbars(4459)0 to be (4471.7 +- 4.8 +- 0.6) MeV/c2 and (21.9 +- 13.1 +- 2.7) MeV, respectively. The branching fractions for P_ccbars(4459)0 production are measured to be B[Upsilon(1S) -> P_ccbars(4459)0/ Pbar_ccbars(4459)0 + anything] = (3.5 +- 2.0 +- 0.2)*10-6 and B[Upsilin(2S) -> P_ccbars(4459)0/ Pbar_ccbars(4459)0 +anything] = (2.9 +- 1.7 +- 0.4)*10-6. The inclusive branching fractions of Upsilon(1S, 2S) -> Jpsi Lambda/Lambdabar are measured to be B[Upsilin(1S) -> Jpsi Lambda/Lambdabar + anything] = (36.9 +- 5.3 +- 2.4)*10-6 and B[Upsilon(2S) -> Jpsi Lambda/Lambdabar + anything] = (22.3 +- 5.7 +- 3.1)*10-6. We measure the visible cross section $σ(e^+e^- \to J/psi Λ/\barΛ$ + anything) = (90 +- 14 +- 6) fb for the continuum production at $\sqrt{s} = 10.52$ GeV. In all cases, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. △ Less
