Rapidity and multiplicity dependence of charged-particle flow in $p$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 8.16$ TeV

Abstract: The elliptic and triangular flow of charged particles are measured using two-particle angular correlations in $p$Pb collisions in the pseudorapidity range \cal{2.0 $< |η| <$ 4.8}. The data sample was collected by the LHCb experiment in 2016 at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 8.16$ TeV, containing in total approximately 1.5 billion collision events. Non-flow contributions are obtained in low-multiplicity collisions and subtracted to extract the flow harmonics. The results are presented as a function of event multiplicity and hadron transverse momentum. Comparisons with a full (3+1)D dynamic model indicate that it overestimates the measured elliptic flow. A comparison between the forward and backward regions reveals no significant differences in flow parameters, suggesting that final-state effects may dominate over initial-state effects in the origin of flow in small systems. △ Less

Abstract: The first direct measurement of the relative phase between the strong and electromagnetic amplitudes for a $J/ψ$ decaying into a vector-pseudoscalar final state is performed using 26 energy points of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data between $3.00\ \text{GeV}$ and \mbox{3.12 GeV}. Abstract: Using $e^+e^-$ collision data corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 22.7 fb$^{-1}$, collected at center-of-mass energies between 3.7 and 4.7 GeV with the BESIII detector, we present a measurement of energy-dependent cross sections and effective form factors for the process of $e^+e^-\to Ω^{-}\barΩ^+$. By conducting a fit to the cross sections of $e^+e^-\to Ω^{-}\barΩ^+$ considering the… ▽ More Using $e^+e^-$ collision data corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 22.7 fb$^{-1}$, collected at center-of-mass energies between 3.7 and 4.7 GeV with the BESIII detector, we present a measurement of energy-dependent cross sections and effective form factors for the process of $e^+e^-\to Ω^{-}\barΩ^+$. By conducting a fit to the cross sections of $e^+e^-\to Ω^{-}\barΩ^+$ considering the continuum and resonant contributions, a clear resonant structure in the spectrum around 4.2 GeV is observed for the first time with a statistical significance exceeding 10$σ$, and it can be well described with the line shape of the $Y(4230)$ and $Y(4320)$ observed in $e^+e^-\to π^{+}π^{-}J/ψ$. Evidence for the decay $ψ(3770) \to Ω^-\barΩ^{+}$ is observed with a statistical significance of 4.4$σ$ by analyzing the measured cross sections together with earlier BESIII results, and the branching fraction is firstly measured to be $(4.0\pm1.0\pm0.6)$ $\times$ $10^{-5}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. △ Less

Search for $η_{1}(1855)$ in $χ_{cJ}\toηηη^{\prime}$ decays

Abstract: Based on a sample of $2.7\times10^{9}$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, an analysis of the decay $ψ(3686)\toγχ_{cJ}, χ_{cJ}\toηηη^{\prime}$ is performed. The decay modes $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}\toηηη^{\prime}$ are observed for the first time, and their corresponding branching fractions are determined to be… ▽ More Based on a sample of $2.7\times10^{9}$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, an analysis of the decay $ψ(3686)\toγχ_{cJ}, χ_{cJ}\toηηη^{\prime}$ is performed. The decay modes $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}\toηηη^{\prime}$ are observed for the first time, and their corresponding branching fractions are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(χ_{c1}\toηηη^{\prime}) = (1.39 \pm 0.13(\text{stat.}) \pm 0.09(\text{sys.})) \times 10^{-4}$ and $\mathcal{B}(χ_{c2}\toηηη^{\prime}) = (4.42 \pm 0.86(\text{stat.}) \pm 0.37(\text{sys.})) \times 10^{-5}$. An upper limit on the branching fraction of $χ_{c0}\toηηη^{\prime}$ is set as $2.64 \times 10^{-5}$ at 90\% confidence level (CL). A partial wave analysis (PWA) of the decay $χ_{c1}\toηηη^{\prime}$ is performed to search for the $1^{-+}$ exotic state $η_1(1855)$. The PWA result indicates that the structure in the $ηη^{\prime}$ mass spectrum is mainly attributed to the $f_0(1500)$, while in the $ηη$ mass spectrum, it is primarily the $0^{++}$ phase space. The upper limit of $\mathcal{B}(χ_{c1}\toη_{1}(1855)η) \cdot \mathcal{B}(η_{1}(1855)\toηη^{\prime})< 9.79 \times 10^{-5}$ is set based on the PWA at 90\% CL. △ Less

Abstract: We report a study of the semileptonic decay $D^0 \rightarrow \bar{K}^0π^-μ^+ν_μ$ based on a sample of $7.9~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The branching fraction of the decay is measured for the first time to be… ▽ More We report a study of the semileptonic decay $D^0 \rightarrow \bar{K}^0π^-μ^+ν_μ$ based on a sample of $7.9~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The branching fraction of the decay is measured for the first time to be $\mathcal{B}(D^0\rightarrow \bar{K}^0π^-μ^+ν_μ) = (1.373 \pm 0.020_{\rm stat} \pm 0.023_{\rm syst})\%$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Based on the investigation of the decay dynamics, we find that the decay is dominated by the $K^{*}(892)^-$ resonance with the branching fraction measured to be $\mathcal{B}(D^0\rightarrow K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ) = (1.948 \pm 0.033_{\rm stat} \pm 0.036_{\rm syst})\%$. We also determine the hadronic form factors for the $D^0\rightarrow K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ$ decay to be $r_{V} = V(0)/A_1(0) = 1.46 \pm 0.11_{\rm stat} \pm 0.04_{\rm syst}$, $r_{2} = A_2(0)/A_1(0) = 0.71 \pm 0.08_{\rm stat} \pm 0.03_{\rm syst}$, and $A_1(0)=0.609 \pm 0.008_{\rm stat} \pm 0.008_{\rm syst}$, where $V(0)$ is the vector form factor and $A_{1,2}(0)$ are the axial form factors evaluated at $q^2=0$. The $A_1(0)$ is measured for the first time in $D^0\rightarrow K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ$ decay. Averaging the form-factor parameters that we reported previously in $D^0\rightarrow K^*(892)^-(\rightarrow \bar{K}^0π^-)e^+ν_{e}$ and $D^0\rightarrow K^*(892)^-(\rightarrow K^-π^0)μ^+ν_μ$ decays, we obtain $r_{V}=1.456\pm0.040_{\rm stat}\pm0.016_{\rm syst}$, $r_{2}=0.715\pm0.031_{\rm stat}\pm0.014_{\rm stat}$, and $A_1(0)=0.614\pm0.005_{\rm stat}\pm0.004_{\rm syst}$. This is the most precise determination of the form-factor parameters to date measured in $D\rightarrow K^*(892)$ transition, which provide the most stringent test on various theoretical models. △ Less

Abstract: The first observation of the $Σ^+ \to p μ^+ μ^-$ decay is reported with high significance using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $5.4\,\rm{fb}^{-1}$, collected with the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 13~TeV. A yield of $237\pm 16$ $Σ^+ \to p μ^+ μ^-$ decays is obtained, where the uncertainty is statistical only. Characteristics of Ge-doped Multi-Mode Fibers in Total Ionizing Dose

Abstract: Purpose: The fiber optical links in 850 nm band with Ge-doped multi-mode (MM) fibers are well developed for data transmission at 10 Gbps and higher. The applications in nuclear environments require radiation resistance. The characteristics of Ge-doped MM fibers are investigated for Radiation Induced Attenuation (RIA) in Total Ionizing Dose (TID). Methods: Commercial samples of Ge-doped MM fibers… ▽ More Purpose: The fiber optical links in 850 nm band with Ge-doped multi-mode (MM) fibers are well developed for data transmission at 10 Gbps and higher. The applications in nuclear environments require radiation resistance. The characteristics of Ge-doped MM fibers are investigated for Radiation Induced Attenuation (RIA) in Total Ionizing Dose (TID). Methods: Commercial samples of Ge-doped MM fibers were irradiated in Go-60 gamma rays at dose rates of 5 to 1.4k Gy(SiO2)/hr. The fiber samples were packaged in water tanks maintained at constant temperatures in the range of -15 to 45 degC. The optical power transmitted through the fibers were recorded in irradiation, and in annealing when the source was shielded. The measurements of RIA in time are analyzed for dose rate and temperature dependences. Results: Ge-doped fiber samples of OM2 to OM4 grades were investigated for attenuation of optical power in radiation ionizing dose. Depending on the fabrication technology, two of the fiber types show radiation resistance with the RIAs of 0.2 dB/m and 0.05 dB/m, respectively, for the TID of 300 kGy(SiO2). At low dose rate of 5 Gy/hr, the RIA increases steadily and the annealing of low density ionizing defects does not cause notable deviation. At 1.4 kGy/hr the accumulated defects result to twice higher RIA during irradiation, and is worsen to a factor three in cold temperature. However, once the source is shielded the recovery is effective in a few hours. Conclusion: The telecom products of 850 nm Ge-doped MM fibers provide high speed communication in distances of a few hundred meters. The industrial fabrication methods provide fibers that can endure radiation ionizing dose for applications in nuclear instrumentation. △ Less

The cross section between $4.3$ and $4.45~\mathrm{GeV}$ exhibits a plateau-like shape and drops sharply around $4.5~\mathrm{GeV}$, which cannot be described by two resonances only. Three coherent Breit-Wigner functions are used to parameterize the $\sqrt{s}$-dependent cross section line shape. The masses and widths are determined to be $M_1=(4223.6_{-3.7-2.9}^{+3.6+2.6})~\mathrm{MeV}/c^2$, $Γ_1=(58.5_{-11.4-6.5}^{+10.8+6.7})~\mathrm{MeV}$, $M_2=(4327.4_{-18.8-9.3}^{+20.1+10.7})~\mathrm{MeV}/c^2$, $Γ_2=(244.1_{-27.1-18.0}^{+34.0+23.9})~\mathrm{MeV}$, and $M_3=(4467.4_{-5.4-2.7}^{+7.2+3.2})~\mathrm{MeV}/c^2$, $Γ_3=(62.8_{-14.4-6.6}^{+19.2+9.8})~\mathrm{MeV}$. The first uncertainties are statistical and the other two are systematic. Combining the measurements with the world averages of the corresponding Cabibbo-favored (CF) decays, the ratios of the DCS/CF branching fractions are obtained. The precision of the weak-decay parameters for the decays $Σ^{+} \to p π^{0}$ ($α_{0}$) and $\barΣ^{-} \to \bar{p} π^{0}$ ($\barα_{0}$) is improved by a factor of three compared to the previous world average. Furthermore, the quantum-entangled $Σ^{+}\barΣ^{-}$ system enables the most precise test of $CP$ symmetry for the decay $Σ^+\to pπ^0$, through the asymmetry observable $A_{CP}=(α_{0}+\barα_{0})/(α_{0}-\barα_{0})$ that is measured to be $-0.0118\pm0.0083_{\rm stat}\pm0.0028_{\rm syst}$. Assuming $CP$ conservation, the average decay parameter is determined to be ${\left< α_{\rm 0}\right>} = (α_0-\barα_0)/2=-0.9869\pm0.0011_{\rm stat}\pm0.0016_{\rm syst}$, which is the most precise measurement of the asymmetry decay parameters in baryon sectors. The angular dependence of the ratio of the polarization of the $Σ^+$ in both $J/ψ$ and $ψ(3686)$ decays is studied for the first time. △ Less

However, despite having been discovered in various meson decays, $CP$ violation has yet to be observed in baryons, the type of matter that makes up the observable Universe. This article reports a study of the decay of the beauty baryon $Λ^{0}_{b}$ to the $p K^{-} π^{+}π^{-}$ final state and its $CP$-conjugated process, using data collected by the LHCb (Large Hadron Collider beauty) experiment at CERN. The results reveal significant asymmetries between the decay rates of the $Λ^{0}_{b}$ baryon and its $CP$-conjugated antibaryon, marking the first observation of $CP$ violation in baryon decays, thus demonstrating the different behaviour of baryons and antibaryons. In the Standard Model, $CP$ violation arises from the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa mechanism, while new forces or particles beyond the Standard Model could provide additional contributions. The branching fraction of… ▽ More Using $e^+e^-$ annihilation data corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 7.33 $\rm fb^{-1}$ collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226~GeV with the BESIII detector, we provide the first amplitude analysis and absolute branching fraction measurement of the hadronic decay $D_{s}^{+} \to K_{S}^{0}K_{L}^{0}π^{+}$. The branching fraction of $D_{s}^{+} \to K_{S}^{0}K_{L}^{0}π^{+}$ is determined to be $(1.86\pm0.06_{\rm stat}\pm0.03_{\rm syst})\%$. Combining the $\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+} \to φ(\to K_{S}^0K_{L}^0) π^+)$ obtained in this work and the world average of $\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+} \to φ(\to K^+K^-) π^+)$, we measure the relative branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(φ\to K_S^0K_L^0)/\mathcal{B}(φ\to K^+K^-)$=($0.597 \pm 0.023_{\rm stat} \pm 0.018_{\rm syst} \pm 0.016_{\rm PDG}$), which deviates from the PDG value by more than 3$σ$. Taichu seires, Monolithic Active Pixel Sensor (MAPS), a key component of the vertex detector for CEPC was designed to meet the CEPC's requirements. For the geometry of vertex detector is long barrel with no endcap, and current silicon lacks a complete digitization model, precise estimation of cluster size particularly causing by particle with large incident angle is needed. Testbeam results were conducted at the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF) to evaluate cluster size dependence on different incident angles and threshold settings. Experimental results confirmed that cluster size increases with incident angle. Simulations using the Allpix$^2$ framework replicated experimental trends at small angles but exhibited discrepancies at large angles, suggesting limitations in linear electric field assumptions and sensor thickness approximations. The results from both testbeam and simulations have provided insights into the performance of the TaichuPix chip at large incident angles, offering a crucial foundation for the establishment of a digital model and addressing the estimation of cluster size in the forward region of the long barrel. Furthermore, it offers valuable references for future iterations of TaichuPix, the development of digital models, and the simulation and estimation of the vertex detector's performance. △ Less

Abstract: Large-scale organic liquid scintillator detectors are highly efficient in the detection of MeV-scale electron antineutrinos. These signal events can be detected through inverse beta decay on protons, which produce a positron accompanied by a neutron. A noteworthy background for antineutrinos coming from nuclear power reactors and from the depths of the Earth (geoneutrinos) is generated by ($α, n$)… ▽ More Large-scale organic liquid scintillator detectors are highly efficient in the detection of MeV-scale electron antineutrinos. In organic liquid scintillator detectors, $α$ particles emitted from intrinsic contaminants such as $^{238}$U, $^{232}$Th, and $^{210}$Pb/$^{210}$Po, can be captured on $^{13}$C nuclei, followed by the emission of a MeV-scale neutron. Three distinct interaction mechanisms can produce prompt energy depositions preceding the delayed neutron capture, leading to a pair of events correlated in space and time within the detector. Thus, ($α, n$) reactions represent an indistinguishable background in liquid scintillator-based antineutrino detectors, where their expected rate and energy spectrum are typically evaluated via Monte Carlo simulations. This work presents results from the open-source SaG4n software, used to calculate the expected energy depositions from the neutron and any associated de-excitation products. Also simulated is a detailed detector response to these interactions, using a dedicated Geant4-based simulation software from the JUNO experiment. An expected measurable $^{13}$C$(α, n)^{16}$O event rate and reconstructed prompt energy spectrum with associated uncertainties, are presented in the context of JUNO, however, the methods and results are applicable and relevant to other organic liquid scintillator neutrino detectors. △ Less

The result is $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+} \to K_{S}^{0} X)=(10.9\pm0.2\pm0.1)\%$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This result indicates that there are still undiscovered decay channels containing $K_{S}^{0}$ in the final state with a combined BF of $(3.1\pm0.4)\%$. The BF of the inclusive decay $Λ_{c}^{+} \to \overline{K}^{0} / K^{0} X$ is calculated to be $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+} \to \overline{K}^{0} / K^{0} X)=(21.8 \pm0.4 \pm0.2 \pm1.1)\%$, where the third uncertainty accounts for a possible difference between $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+} \to K_{S}^{0} X)$ and $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+} \to K_{L}^{0} X)$. Abstract: Using $(2712\pm14)\times10^6$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform the first amplitude analysis of the radiative decay $ψ(3686)\to γK_S^0 K_S^0$ within the mass region $M_{K_S^0 K_S^0 }<2.8$ GeV/$c^2$. Employing a one-channel K-matrix approach for the description of the dynamics of the $K^0_S K^0_S$ system, the data sample is well described with four poles for the $f_0$-wave and three poles for the $f_2$-wave. The determined pole positions are consistent with those of well-established resonance states. The observed $f_0$ and $f_{2}$ states are found to be in agreement with those produced in radiative $J/ψ$ decays. The production behaviors of $f_0$ and $f_2$ poles in $ψ(3686)\toγK_S^0 K_S^0$ are qualified with their residues and the converted branching fractions. By comparing with $J/ψ\toγK_S^0 K_S^0$ decay, the ratios $\frac{\mathcal{B}(ψ(3686)\toγf_{0,2})}{\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\toγf_{0,2})}$ are determined, which provides crucial experimental inputs on the internal structure of the $f_{0,2}$ states, especially their potential mixing with glueball components. △ Less

Abstract: Utilizing 4.5 $fb^-$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at center-of-mass energies ranging from 4599.53 MeV to 4698.82 MeV by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we search for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed hadronic decays $Λ_{c}^{+}\toΣ^{0} K^{+}π^{0}$ and $Λ_{c}^{+}\toΣ^{0}K^{+}π^+π^-$ with a single-tag method. No significant signals are observed for both decays. In addition, a test of lepton flavour universality is performed by comparing the obtained angular observables with those measured in $B^0\rightarrow K^{*0}μ^{+}μ^{-}$ decays. In general, the angular observables are found to be consistent with the Standard Model expectations as well as with global analyses of other $b \rightarrow s \ell^{+} \ell^{-}$ processes, where $\ell$ is either a muon or an electron. Precise Measurement of the $χ_{c0}$ Resonance Parameters and Branching Fractions of $χ_{c0,c2}\toπ^+π^-/K^+K^-$

Abstract: By analyzing a $ψ(3686)$ data sample containing $(107.7\pm0.6)\times10^{6}$ events taken with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring in 2009, the $χ_{c0}$ resonance parameters are precisely measured using $χ_{c0,c2} \to π^+π^-/K^+K^-$ events. The mass of $χ_{c0}$ is determined to be $M(χ_{c0})=(3415.67\pm0.07\pm0.06\pm0.07$)~MeV/$c^2$, and its full width is… ▽ More By analyzing a $ψ(3686)$ data sample containing $(107.7\pm0.6)\times10^{6}$ events taken with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring in 2009, the $χ_{c0}$ resonance parameters are precisely measured using $χ_{c0,c2} \to π^+π^-/K^+K^-$ events. The mass of $χ_{c0}$ is determined to be $M(χ_{c0})=(3415.67\pm0.07\pm0.06\pm0.07$)~MeV/$c^2$, and its full width is $Γ(χ_{c0})=(12.44\pm0.12\pm0.12)~{\rm MeV}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third for mass comes from $χ_{c2}$ mass uncertainty. These measurements improve the precision of $χ_{c0}$ mass by a factor of four and width by one order of magnitude over the previous individual measurements, and significantly boost our knowledge about the charmonium spectrum. Together with additional $(345.4\pm2.6)\times10^{6}$ $ψ(3686)$ data events taken in 2012, the decay branching fractions of $χ_{c0,c2}\toπ^+π^-/K^+K^-$ are measured as well, with precision improved by a factor of three compared to previous measurements. These $χ_{c0}$ decay branching fractions provide important inputs for the study of glueballs. △ Less

Abstract: By analyzing 7.93 $\rm fb^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider, we report the observation of the semimuonic decays of $D^+\to \bar K_1(1270)^0μ^+ν_μ$ and $D^0\to K_1(1270)^-μ^+ν_μ$ with statistical significances of $12.5σ$ and $6.0σ$, respectively. Their decay branching fractions are determined… ▽ More By analyzing 7.93 $\rm fb^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider, we report the observation of the semimuonic decays of $D^+\to \bar K_1(1270)^0μ^+ν_μ$ and $D^0\to K_1(1270)^-μ^+ν_μ$ with statistical significances of $12.5σ$ and $6.0σ$, respectively. Their decay branching fractions are determined to be ${\mathcal B}[D^{+}\to \bar{K}_1(1270)^0 μ^{+}ν_μ]=(2.36\pm0.20^{+0.18}_{-0.27}\pm 0.48)\times10^{-3}$ and ${\mathcal B}[D^{0}\to K_1(1270)^{-} μ^{+}ν_μ]=(0.78\pm0.11^{+0.05}_{-0.09}\pm 0.15)\times10^{-3}$, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, and the third originates from the input branching fraction of $\bar K_{1}(1270)^0\to K^- π^+π^0$ or $K_1(1270)^-\to K^-π^+π^-$. Combining our branching fractions with the previous measurements of ${\mathcal B}[D^+\to \bar K_1(1270)^0e^+ν_{e}]$ and ${\mathcal B}[D^0\to K_1(1270)^-e^+ν_{e}]$, we determine the branching fraction ratios to be ${\mathcal B}[D^+\to \bar K_1(1270)^0μ^+ν_μ]/{\mathcal B}[D^+\to \bar K_1(1270)^0e^+ν_{e}]=1.03 \pm 0.14 \substack{+0.11\\-0.15}$ and ${\mathcal B}[D^0\to K_1(1270)^-μ^+ν_μ]/{\mathcal B}[D^0\to K_1(1270)^-e^+ν_{e}]=0.74\pm 0.13 \substack{+0.08\\-0.13}$. Using the branching fractions measured in this work and the world-average lifetimes of the $D^+$ and $D^0$ mesons, we determine the semimuonic partial decay width ratio to be $Γ[D^+\to \bar K_1(1270)^0 μ^+ν_μ]/Γ[D^0\to K_1(1270)^- μ^+ν_μ]=1.22\pm 0.10\substack{+0.06\\-0.09}$, which is consistent with unity as predicted by isospin conservation. △ Less
