Existing s… ▽ More To support maintenance and servicing of industrial machines, service processes are even today often performed manually and analogously, although supportive technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality and digital platforms already exist. In many cases, neither technicians on-site nor remote experts have all the essential information and options for suitable actions available. Existing service products and platforms do not cover all the required functions in practice in order to map end-to-end processes. PLASMA is a concept for a Cloud-based remote maintenance platform designed to meet these demands. But for a real-life implementation of PLASMA, security measures are essential as we show in this paper. △ Less

Abstract: 5G promises to shift Industry 4.0 to the next level by allowing flexible production. However, many communication standards are used throughout a production site, which will stay so in the foreseeable future. Furthermore, localization of assets will be equally valuable in order to get to a higher level of automation. This paper proposes a reference architecture for a convergent localization and communication network for smart manufacturing that combines 5G with other existing technologies and focuses on high-mix low-volume application, in particular at small and medium-sized enterprises. The architecture is derived from a set of functional requirements, and we describe different views on this architecture to show how the requirements can be fulfilled. It connects private and public mobile networks with local networking technologies to achieve a flexible setup addressing many industrial use cases. △ Less

This study sets out to inquire, whether the development teams of robotic products have been considering human factor methods in their design and implementation process. We were specifically interested in the non-verbal communication methods they were aiming to implement, and how they have approached the design process for these. Although valuable insights on tasks and communication needs during the different phases of robot operation could be gathered, the results of this study indicate, that the perspective of the human user or bystander is very often neglected and that knowledge on methods for engineering human-robot interaction is missing. The study was conducted with eleven development teams consisting of robot manufacturers and students within a robot building course representing overall 68 individual participants. △ Less
